Five national professional organizations came together in January 2013, to form a regional association viz South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES). This federation comprises the National Endocrine Societies of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. It has been formed with the objective of developing a forum for Endocrinologists of this region to enable them to meet and interact regarding endocrine problems specific to this region, establish consensus statements and thereby develop strategies for targeted and appropriate management. It also aims to provide a unique platform for budding endocrinologists to enhance their skills while sharing their knowledge and experience.
Since its foundation biennial congresses of SAFES have been held at the following cities across South Asia: Hyderabad, India in 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2015, Lahore, Pakistan in 2017, the SLENDO 2019 at Colombo Sri Lanka. The next SAFES meeting will be held virtually with host DEAN (Nepal) on the 2nd of October, 2021.
