As an endocrinologist with over two more decades of dedication to thyroid disorders and diabetes, Prof. Wang’s research focuses on thyroid cancer, particularly its progression and prognosis and diabetic epidemiology with dyslipidemia. Despite advances in surgical and radioactive iodine-131 therapy, poorly differentiated and anaplastic thyroid cancers remain challenging to treat. To address this, my team has conducted over 20 more years of foundational research, publishing extensively in international journals. I also lead several groups in my country to complete consensus in diabetic dyslipidemia, chronic diabetes kidney disease, and metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), published in Primary Care Diabetes, Journal of Diabetes Investigation, and Hepatology Communication. In addition, in bench work, we identified urinary exosomal proteins, including thyroglobulin and galectin-3, as early prognostic biomarkers for thyroid cancer. These nanosized vesicles, secreted by cancer cells, offer a novel, non-invasive approach for tracking prognosis. Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology since 2016, we’ve collected urine samples from patients at various stages of treatment, yielding quantifiable and reliable biomarkers. These findings, presented at the 2018 American Thyroid Association annual meeting and published in Frontiers in Endocrinology, Biomedicines, and International Journal of Nanomedicine, have secured patents in Taiwan, Japan, and the U.S., paving the way for innovative diagnostic tools for thyroid malignancies.
