Abbas Raza


Dr. S. Abbas Raza is working as consultant Diabetologist /Endocrinologist at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital & Research Center and National Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan.

Dr. Raza graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore Pakistan. He received his Internal Medicine residency training from Atlantic City Medical Center, New Jersey, USA and also, served as Chief medical resident at the same institution. His fellowship training for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism was at University of Wisconsin, Madison, U.S.A.

He is Diplomat American Board of Internal Medicine and Diplomat American Board of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism.

Dr. Raza has many articles to his credit which are published in peer reviewed journals. He is also the author of a chapter entitled “Phosphorus and Magnesium” in The Bone and Mineral Manual 2nd Edition. Elsevier, USA and another chapter on thyroid (Thyroid Emergencies) entitled “Thyroid Emergencies” in Thyroid Disorders Basic Science and Clinical Practice by Springer (Published in 2016).

He is actively involved in formulating and have published guidelines and consensus statement for South East Asia region related to Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Dr. Raza has also served as Chief Investigator for several national and International clinical trials.

Dr. Abbas Raza currently holds the office of Immediate Past President of the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES). SAFES includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Srilanka.

Dr. Raza holds the office of Executive Member of International Society of Endocrinology (ISE). Dr. Raza is also working with EASD (European Association for Study of Diabetes) and developing programs for physicians of SAFES countries.

He has privilege of serving as a member Board of Directors of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist (AACE) in 2003-2004.

He was awarded Fellowship of American College of Endocrinology (FACE) in 2008. Dr. Raza is an Executive Member (since 2004) and Past- President of the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES).

He has been privileged to be elected as founder President of AACE Chapter of Pakistan.

He has been awarded “Life time Achievement Award” by Pakistan Endocrine Society.

Dr. Raza also hold responsibility of Director of organization “Friend Of Mayo”. FOM has taken responsibility of upgrading this more than century old hospital, with inpatient – bed capacity of more than 2400. This hospital caters for poor / non affording patients.
